My First Sunday Slow Swap Experience

, , No Comments

Last April 26, 2026, I said yes to something new and honestly, something that felt so me. I joined a Sunday Slow Swap at Aloha Kakou, and it turned out to be one of the most wholesome and heartwarming experiences I’ve had in a while. The concept? Simple but meaningful. A Slow Swap is a chill gathering where participants bring books, stickers, or stationery items they already own and exchange them with others. It’s like a modern take on the age-old barter system but softer, slower, and more intentional. No pressure, no rush, just sharing and connecting.

How It All Started

I first saw the event posted on Facebook by Gaelley, and without hesitation, I message her to sign up. As someone who loves stickers, stationery, and all things creative, I’ve always wanted to be part of a community like this. I was curious on how does it work? What kind of people will I meet? And of course, what treasures might I bring home? Going into the event, I felt a mix of nerves and excited. I didn’t know anyone from the participants, and that little voice in my head kept asking, “Will I fit in?” But at the same time, I couldn’t wait to see all the items people brought for swapping. And honestly? I’m so glad I went.

Thank you for organizing, Gaelley.

Few things I discovered that day:

1. A new cozy spot to love.

I got discover Aloha Kakou, and I instantly like it. The place has a relaxed vibe and a variety of food choices perfect for slow, meaningful gathering like this.

2. Finding “your people”

I met amazing individuals who share the same love for stickers, books, and stationery. There’s something comforting about being surrounded by people who just get it.

3. Communities are out there, you just have to find them

From journaling to book reading and other creative hobbies, there are so many communities waiting to be discovered. Sometimes, all it takes is opening that door and showing up.

One of the highlights of my day was meeting Janina, Rikka, Kapela, and Nochelle. Hearing their stories and passions made the experience even more special.

Met new friends.

I went home with cutie stickers, a few books, and some lovely stationery items but more than that, I brought home inspiration and new connections.

Three books

A lot of cute stickers.

This experience also reminded me of something I did way back before the pandemic. I made a small stationery barter with random people online. What started as a simple exchanged eventually turned into friendships that I still cherish today. It’s funny how these small, creative interactions can turn into something much bigger and more meaningful.

This Slow Swap made me realized how much I enjoy these kinds of activities and space where I can share my passion for arts and crafts, meet like-minded people, and discover new things to try. Now, I’m on the lookout for more experiences like this journaling hangouts, craft-making sessions, workshops… anything that sparks creativity and connection. If you know any events like these, please tag me or let me know. I’m always excited to try something new and open to exploring more creative spaces. Sometimes, all it takes is one Sunday, one event, and one brave “yes” to open up a whole new world.
