Let’s talk about Self-Care

During this pandemic, my mind opened to a lot of things. It teaches me how to calm down and take everything slowly by not rushing on things. To value small details and appreciate what I have. To be grateful for the life that He gave me. And to trust in Him by accepting the situation that is happening right now.


Last year was the toughest year for me. My family was challenged to fight the virus and it was the experience that built anxiety.  I was struggling to accept the situation. It came to a point that I was fine then suddenly overthinks, feel anxious, and start crying.  I told myself that this thing must be stopped. So I’ve been reading self-care articles that will help me overcome anxiety. To start with, I decided to make a morning routine to calm myself. 


Wake-up early

Waking up early means you have ample time to do the things you want to do in a day.  It gives you more room to prepare for a day and a time to eat breakfast. Honestly, I’m not an early riser.  When I was still working in a corporate job, I always skip eating breakfast because  I woke up late and started rushing to the office. Then I became weak and hospitalized. Since then I make sure to wake up early, eat breakfast and take vitamins.


Meditate

Meditation is an activity where you focus your mind in one direction for some time.  When I woke up, I usually do breathing exercises.  While doing it I also start thinking of the things that I am grateful for. It helps calm my thoughts and emotions. The more I’m thinking about what I’m thankful for, the more I become optimistic in life.  


Stay Hydrated

Every time I woke up I feel thirsty.  So after my meditation, I grab my tumbler and sip water.  Then after a minute, I drink one glass of water. It easily quenches my thirst.  Drinking water first thing in the morning immediately helps rehydrates the body. It also uplifts your mood and gives you enough energy that is why I make sure I have a water tumbler with me every day. I also used a water reminder app to keep track of my water intake.


Take a morning bath

Morning showers are a great way to give energy to our day. It helps wash away toxins and decrease stress. It also improved blood circulation. I realized there is a big difference when you take a morning bath compare to a mid-noon bath. When I take a bath in the morning I feel fresh. It gives me new levels of energy compared to a mid-noon bath. That is why I always recommend that you try taking a morning bath around 6-8 am.  


Apply skincare products

Our skin barrier starts to weaken when we are stress. It hinders our skin’s ability to retain water. Stress also increases perspiration that may lead to dehydrated skin. To prevent it from happening, I make sure to stay hydrated and apply face moisturizer and body lotion every after taking a bath.

Wear nice & comfortable clothes
